I’m overwhelmed! We are new to this, how do we audition?
Spark offers all levels of theater instruction including teaching students how to audition. This is part of the learning process, students just need to be willing to try. When students come into the audition room, they will be coached, encouraged, and assisted through the audition if necessary. Please do not be intimidated. Spark staff is here to help you through the experience.
Where do I get the audition Form?
You can download and print the form below to bring with you to auditions or you can arrive 10-15 min. early to your audition and fill out the form in person.
WHat do i put on my resume?
Providing a resume is a great way to give our directors more information about you! It is helpful to know what shows you have been in, list any training you have had (dance, voice, etc), and any kind of special skills like playing an instrument, doing a back-handspring, juggling, etc. Directors often utilize students special skills to provide fun featured opportunities in the production,
What if I’m new to theater and I don’t have anything to put on my resume?
At Spark we have all levels of theater and everyone has to start somewhere! If you are new, it is okay! You can still fill out a resume and include special skills, hobbies, and even things that you are interested in learning. If you do not feel comfortable creating a resume, you can simply fill out an audition form and indicate that you are brand new to theater in the additional information section.
Do I have to provide a headshot?
It is very helpful to provide a headshot. This will help the directors remember names and faces. Printing out a simple photo taken on an iphone will work.
How do I choose an audition song and monologue?
Select a song from a published musical. Several instrumental tracks can be found for FREE on YouTube or on websites like www.hamienet.com. If you search “Karaoke or accompaniment” for any given song on youtube, there are several tracks available. You are also welcome to use one of the monologues or songs that we have provided below. (Not for Conservatory/ Les Mis auditions)

How to Slate:
A slate is an introduction that states your name, age, and the titles of the pieces you will be performing for your audition.
Example:
Hello, my name is Sam Singer.
I am 16 years old.
I will be doing a monologue from the play "You're Gonna Love This" by "Pete Playwright" and I'll be singing "Song" from the musical "Musical".
