  • Dance is an Art:  The discipline of dance will be taught as an art and will not have emphasis placed on competitive teams, but rather grooming a dancer as an artist.  We plan to offer audition based performing companies in 2021. The goal of our program is to have our Senior Company choreographing and presenting showcases of their own work.  This is a whole other level of training to prepare them for whatever they may want to pursue!

  • Affordability: Dance can be extremely hard on the pocket book.  Because of our non-profit status and the fact that we have a performance space "in house," we are able to offer dance without as many of the extra fees.

  • Excellent Teaching Staff:  We are dedicated to offering high quality dance education and can ensure that our teaching staff reflects those standards.  We are thrilled with the teachers we currently have on staff and look forward to building a larger team!

  • Costumes, Music, Movement:  At Spark we strive to maintain high standards when it comes to our student policies and code of ethics.  Discretion will be used when considering costuming, music, and movement that is age appropriate and displays a respect for the dancer as an artist.

  • Confidence and FUN:  As with any of the programs we offer at Spark, our goal is to uplift our students, help them to build confidence, and add joy to their life!  The arts add color to life and that is why we do what we do!

Tuition:

Tuition payment will be paid through automatic draft to your online account on the 5th of every month September - June. Each student must be enrolled in auto-draft.

Recital Fee: Spring Recital for 2021 will be assessed in December as we watch the policies on gatherings due to Covid-19. In the meantime, we will strive to give parents opportunities for parent previews mid-year in individual classes.

Costume Fees: Information regarding costumes for recital will be communicated as soon as we know more about our options for Spring recital.

Important Dates:

Class Placement:

Class placement is determined by age, dance experience, and ability.  Dancers will be moved up as they progress and not necessarily by year.  Some students may move through two levels in one year while others may stay in the same level from one year to the next.

If you have questions about which class to register for or your would like to schedule an evaluation, please contact our studio at 281-516-8382 or inspire@sparktx.org.

Free Trial Classes:

New students are welcome to do a free trial in any class that they are interested in taking.  You do not need to register for your trial class, just come in the day of class and sign in at the front desk.

PreK:

The goal of our PreK classes are to introduce students to dance in a fun, creative, and imaginative way.  We will utilize props and creative movement in our teaching. Dancers will be introduced to primary ballet technique and creative movement.

Combo Classes:

We offer combo classes for dancers PreK through age 6.  Combo classes allows your student to learn basic ballet technique and rhythmic timing through tap. Students will do a ballet warm up and floor work and then spend the second half of class learning tap.  This gives students exposure to and experience with multiple styles and prepares them to go on and take specific classes as their interests and abilities grow.

Classical Ballet:

As an art and performance based studio we view ballet as the basis of all other styles of dance.  We strive to provide the best in training and technique.  Beginning ballet will start at age 5-6. Students wanting to pursue ballet and dance en pointe will need to take ballet multiple times per week. We encourage intermediate dancers to take ballet twice a week and advanced dancers to take ballet three times a week, We also suggest that ballerinas take a technique class once a week to become a well rounded dancer. See technique description.

Beginning Technique:

Technique classes are 1 hour. Classes will begin with a ballet warm up and conditioning. The next portion of class will cover leaps and turns and the end of each class dancers will focus on learning a phrase or combination. Beginning students will be introduced to lyrical, jazz, and contemporary/modern dance technique. Teachers will alternate between styles throughout the year to give students exposure to and training in these styles. We recommend students also take a ballet class.

Intermediate and Advanced Technique:

Intermediate and Advanced dancers will focus on individual technique and strengthening precision and skill in leaps and turns, lyrical, jazz, and contemporary/modern. Classes will focus on a ballet warm up, conditioning, leaps and turns, and learning phrases and combinations in various styles. We strongly recommend dancers also take ballet 2 to 3 times a week.

Hip Hop:

Hip hop dance refers to the street style that was born out of New York in the early 70s that has now spread across the world as a global phenomenon. Hip hop culture consists of the dance style, the music genre, and the art forms of DJing , Graffiti, and MCing. Hip hop classes will consist of learning the basic foundations of the dance style which begins with the bounce. We will explore expressing individualism through freestyle concepts to basic rhythms and through more difficult musicality as class progresses.

Musical Theatre Dance:

Musical theatre dance is a great way to experience the fun of storytelling through dance! Students will learn basic terminology and popular choreography often used in the musical theatre genre. Classes are listed as age specific.  No experience required.

Tap:

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Tap is a great skill for any musical theatre student to add to their repertoire. This is a great class for any versatile actor or dancer.

Pointe:

Pointe dancers must be at least 10 years old and have had the required conditioning and strength before they are able to take pointe.  New students will need to be evaluated.
